Why Good Friday is Good?

He was tortured, beaten, deprived of water, murdered a humiliating death, It wasn’t a good day for Jesus when He was rejected by men and abandoned by the Father.

Why was it called Good Friday? What so good about it?

“We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete. He endured the shame of being nailed to a cross, because he knew later on he would be glad he did. Now he is seated at the right side of God's throne!” - Hebrews 12:2 CEV

Why was He glad that He endured all that?

Because of the inheritance it will bring to you.

I've read an article of a person who had inherited a massive fortune because nobody told him what he inherited.. he would go thru life at a level less than what it was intended..

Let say if you are diagnosed with a terminal disease, and there was a cure for it, but nobody told you about the cure, you’re gonna die thinking there isn’t any hope.

If we don't know the good and the benefits of good Friday.. we will also live life way less than what God intended for us.

Not exactly to but similar to life insurance.. the term of death benefits. The benefits come only after death. Inheritance is given after death literally but remember when you received Christ and got baptized you have been baptized unto His death and resurrect a new life, being born again.

Jesus liken it as a seed has to be sown in order to grow.. Jesus died on that cross so you and I can receive the benefits, now if we don’t know what are the benefits, we can never enjoy them, Jesus paid these benefits with His life so you and I can collect them.

  • Total Forgiveness

Total forgiveness of everything I have ever done wrong. God doesn’t want us to live feeling hopeless and unending soul searching for answers.

“You were dead, because you were sinful and were not God's people. But God let Christ make you alive, when he forgave all our sins. God wiped out the charges that were against us for disobeying the Law of Moses. He took them away and nailed them to the cross.” - Colossians 2:13-14 CEV

For some of us this will be a long list of charges.

Imagine if you have many debts, then you got a call to let you know that someone had paid all the debts on your behalf. How will you live? Still burdened and guilty?

“For by the blood of Christ we are set free, that is, our sins are forgiven. How great is the grace of God,” - Ephesians 1:7 GNTD

What great of a sin you’ve possibly committed? Let say you committed such a nasty crime that you are sentenced in prison for life with no possibility of parole.. or in a death row.. or they have to kill you 9 times because you are such a cruel meanest craziest person, then Christ walked in and took that penalty for you.

Grace is a gift, youve never earned it, you’ve never good enough to get it. Grace is what God gives because you need it, not because you deserve it.

But this is not all.. the benefits also mean...

  • Total Healing

We all need healing.. not just physical healings because thats not the deepest wound.

The deepest wound in your life is not what you can see, its not the handicap, the blindness, the failed kidney, the spreading tumors, the abnormal heart... the deepest wound is in your life and my life, they are hidden, nobody can see it sometimes, only God can see it.

God did not just forgive your sins, but also He wants to heal you so you can live free from shame, resentment, bitterness, hurts and iniquities..

“He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead (freed from the grip of sin) to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.” - 1 Peter 2:24 NLT

You are healed by His wounds.. Peter quoted Isaiah 53. He was whipped so that we can be healed.

I've seen someone who was dying on hospital bed and somebody who dearly loved that dying person prayed, "please God let me be the one who's sick and dying, let me replace him... " what if that dying person sins too much and hurts you a lot? It took greatest and purest of Love to do what Christ did, to be chastised and wounded so that we can be healed.

Once there was a perfect earth until sin came.. Everything is broken in this world today.

The political system, the economy, even the climate and weather is broken..your body is broken, as you age, you have body ache and pain, health deteriorated.

Relationships are broken. Dreams are broken. Hearts are broken. Minds are broken (mentally, depressions, disorders, etc). Nothing is perfect in this world anymore.

Thats why healing is very important part of His redemptive plan..

Jesus ministry is also health care.. Jesus is preaching teaching and healing. Spirit, Soul and Body, a total healing.
  • Total Freedom

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. - Galatians 5:1 NIV

Aposle Paul reminded us that Christ died for our freedom. He paid in full and it is up to us now to live in the freedom God gave.

As a nation, we mark in our calendars national holidays to remind us about veterans day, independence day or memorial day... to remind us of the sacrifice our forefathers did to buy us our freedom and often we took it for granted by being entitled. Much like our spiritual walk, we must not do the same. We must learn to walk in His freedom and to the way Christ lives so we can produce the following fruits of the spirit in our lives because God has already put the seed of that greatness in us.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. - Galatians 5:22-23 NIV

These are the Total Benefits of Good Friday and thats why Good Friday is good. in 3 days, we willcelebrate resurrection Sunday and it's benefits adds even more in our lives.

Now trust your life to Jesus. Your life will never be the same. If you haven't received Christ as your LORD and SAVIOR. Here are easy steps to guide you:

  1. Acknowledge your need: Recognize that you are a sinner and that you need God's forgiveness and salvation.

  2. Believe in Jesus: Believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that he died for your sins, and that he rose again.

  3. Repent and Turn: Turn away from your sins and choose to follow Christ.

  4. Receive the Gift: Accept God's free gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

  5. Grow in Faith: Continue to grow in your relationship with God through prayer, Bible study, and fellowship with other believers.

Pray this with me:

"Lord Jesus, I repent of my sins and surrender my life. Wash me clean. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. That he died on the cross for my sins and rose again on the third day for my Victory, I believe that in my heart and make confession with my mouth, that Jesus is my Savior and Lord. I receive eternal life, in Jesus name, Amen."

We believe that if you prayed that simple prayer, you have been born again. You are starting with a clean slate, and you have entered into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Keep God first place in your life. Learn to pray; prayer is simply talking to God like you would talk to a friend. Mark today's date, write it down in your Bible – this is the day of new beginnings in your life!

If you prayed that prayer, let us know in the comment. We would love to hear your testimony!
